Médecins Sans Frontières (MSF) is an international independent medical and humanitarian action-driven organisation that offers assistance to populations in distress, to victims of natural or man-made disasters and to victims of armed conflict, without discrimination and irrespective of race, religion, creed or political affiliation.

The MSF movement is built around 5 operational centres (OC) supported by 23 sections and offices worldwide. MSF in Greece provides humanitarian and medical assistance to the refugee and migrant populations fleeing conflict in their home countries. MSF Covid19 project will develop activities in the camp (health promotion in collaboration with other actors, technical support to triage, isolation and contact tracing activities), specific activities for the most vulnerable population.

Psychologist

  • Project: MSF Europe Migrations

  • Duration: 3 months with high possibility of extension 

Main purpose

Providing psychological support to patients within the target population, patient suspected and confirmed of Covid19, according to adapted and updated knowledge, National and MSF protocols, values and procedures in order to improve the patient’s mental health.

Main Responsibilities of the Position

  • Carrying out evaluation of mental health needs of patients and establishing a diagnosis and a plan of treatment. Informing the patient and his/her relatives about the possible consequences of the illness and the drug treatment to follow and referring patients to other health professionals whenever necessary, in order to provide the most appropriate treatment and improve the patient's condition

  • Implementing the Sexual Gender Based Violence (SGBV) protocol, identifying possible victims of SGBV and referring them to the medical team so that they receive the necessary treatment.

  • Providing psychological support and psychotherapy sessions (individual, family, group) to patients according to MSF protocols in order to improve their mental health conditions

  • Assisting and training staff members and resourceful people whenever necessary in order to enhance the scope of MH activities. Working in close collaboration with translators in order to ensure appropriate terminology and behaviour during sessions

  • Collecting statistical and monitoring data about mental health activities

  • Informing the supervisor and the medical team about any issues or problems that may arise related to patients’ treatment in order to provide the best possible solution from a medical perspective

  • Ensuring that all patient information is kept confidential.

  • Ensuring psychological assistance to persons affected by covid19:

  • Support medical and paramedical staff in charge of COVID 19 patients

  • Support COVID 19 patients and their family/caregiver during their illeness

  • Remote consultation will happen through phone or tablet

Requirements

  • Essential degree or diploma in Psychology
  • Desirable master degree in Clinical Psychology
  • Essential 2 years’ experience minimum as clinical Psychologist
  • Desirable previous experience with MSF or other NGO’s in developing countries
  • Essential Greek and English
  • Desirable computer literacy (word, excel and internet)

Psychiatrist

  • Project: MSF Europe Migrations
  • Location: Samos, Greece
  • Starting Date: Immediately
  • Duration: 3 month contract (with high possibility of extension)

Main Purpose

To collaborate with MSF medical staff on the integration of psychiatric treatment with basic healthcare services in order to insure the treatment of patients suffering from severe and common psychiatric disorders.

Accountabilities

  • Provide treatment for patients suffering from severe and common psychiatric disorders with specific attention to the cultural context.

  • Provide training and supervision to national and international medical staff (doctors and nurses) on diagnosis and treatment of severe and common mental health disorders according to MSF guidelines

  • Participate as a member of the mental health team when present and offer supervision and support to national psychologists and counsellors

  • Ensure that guidelines and psychotropic medications from MSF standard drug list are available in the project

  • Ensure that proper information on treatment and follow up are collected in order to monitor the provision of care.

  • Evaluate in-country available psychiatric services including possibilities for psychiatric hospitalization and the quality of these services.

  • Form a relationship with MoH and exploration of sustainability of psychiatric treatment.

  • Establish collaboration/communication with medical specialties in the project in order to achieve a multi-disciplinary approach to patient care.

  • Assessing mental patients, decide on the basis of scientific evidence the patients eligible for psychotropic medication.

  • Regularly follow up of our patients and, if necessary, for other medical partners.

  • Ensure groups sessions for psychiatric patients

  • Support psychologist in assessment of difficult cases

  • Directly under project medical referent supervisor but should also collaborate with other medical departments.

Qualifications

  • Essential MD degree specialized training in psychiatry. License to practice as Psychiatrist in Greece.
  • Essential 2 years’ experience minimum as a Psychiatrist.
  • Experience in training and supervision
  • Desirable previous experience with MSF or other NGO’s in developing countries.
  • Desirable French Language, English language is mandatory.
  • Desirable computer literacy (word, excel and internet).
